Until the development of the Radiant Cut in 1977 by Henry Grossbard, a Viennese born, New York based diamond cutter, all diamonds straight edges like the emerald cut were faceted with a cutting style called the "step cut".  With its revolutionary cutting style, the Radiant Cut allows more light refracting surfaces, thus un- leashing the natural brilliance of a straight edged, rectangular stone.
