Ernest Borel was founded in 1856 in Neuchatel by Jules Borel and Paul Courvoisier. Jules Borel's son, Ernest, took over the firm's management in 1898 and gave it his name. He was director for about 40 years, until his son, Jean-Louis took over in 1936.
The international expansion of Ernest Borel was rapid. In 1859, contacts were established in various countries in Europe, South America and in the United States. The company quickly expanded to Asia, Japan, China and India. By 1959, Ernest Borel was present on more than 70 markets in five continents.
in the 1950's, Ernest Borel launched its famous Cocktail model, which is still protected. The particularity of this mechanical timepiece was the display taking the form of an hour hand = 2 discs for minute and second, creating an unusual kaleidoscope visual effect. This model had immediate worldwide success and contributed to the know-how and reputation of Ernest Borel, especially in the United States, where sales grew very fast with this model.
